A Mac Mini with the M2 and M2 Pro is announced by Apple. The Mac Mini is the latest device from Apple to receive the upgrade to the M2 chip; this time, it also comes with the Pro version of Apple’s processor. The new model, which has a starting price of $599 and is already available to buy, was revealed this morning in a press release. It will be in stock starting on Tuesday, January 24.

The M2 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage are included in the Mac Mini’s standard configuration. Along with two USB-A ports and two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) connectors on the back of the device, an upgrade from the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the previous iteration, it has an HDMI port, gigabit ethernet, and a conventional headphone jack. The cost of this configuration is $1,299, which is more than twice as much as the base model. Additionally, you can modify it to upgrade the M2 Pro’s 10 core CPU / 16 core GPU processor to a 12 core CPU / 19 core variation for an extra $300 and add an extra 16GB of RAM (for a total of 32GB) for $400.

Both the new MacBook M2 Pro and M2 Max replace previous iterations that have been in use since the latter half of 2021. It’s good to see Apple update its Apple silicon processors on a regular basis, even though they’re still excellent values (worth bearing in mind as stores start to try and sell older versions in favor of the new ones). The M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs, which were available in Apple’s previous generation of MacBook Pros, had a maximum of a 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine and supported 64GB of memory and an 8TB SSD.
